Susan Baker
I am a 1976 graduate of the Court Reporting Program, a fantastic program with knowledgeable and experienced teachers that prepared me well for this career. I have worked for some of the biggest and best agencies in the city and country and have been involved in groundbreaking cases with the top attorneys in the country, from Philip Corboy in Chicago in 1977 to John O’Quinn and Joseph Jamail in Houston in the ’80’s and ’90’s, product liability cases and scientific symposia from the Exxon Valdez disaster to the BP spill. I have reported public hearings for Houston’s Metropolitan Transit Authority as well as convention reporting for Quilts, Inc. along with some criminal reporting in grand jury.
I raised three children during my career due to the flexibility of freelance reporting and am still a very active reporter and officer in Houston Court Reporters Association. I have moved to several different states and now live in a city I love. I have been able to support myself all these years, married or not.
I love reporting so much that my daughter is enrolled in reporting school. We live in Houston, so she is unable to attend Generations, or she would! I highly recommend this field to anyone who is self-motivated, strong in English and reading, with a natural curiosity and determination to succeed.
