CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds

We are pleased to announce The MacCormac College COVID-19 Emergency Grant allocated by the Department of Education through the CARES Act to provide emergency relief funding to students who have experienced financial hardship due to campus disruption from the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant funds may cover expenses such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care.

*Second Update*

MacCormac Collge has signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement for the second round of distribution and we have used more than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

MacCormac College had received $985,275 on August 16, 2021, from the Department of Education in pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

MacCormac College has since distributed all of the funds ($985,275) to 460 different students. That was the same amount of students who were eligible to participate in the Federal student financial aid programs under Section 484 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, and thus were eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

MacCormac College had received $191,004 on April 24, 2020, from the Department of Education in pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

MacCormac College has since distributed $183,950 of the funds to 130 different students. That was the same amount of students who were eligible to participate in the Federal student financial aid programs under Section 484 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, and thus were eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

Eligibility Qualifications

  • Students that were enrolled in at least one on-campus class during the spring 2020 semester are eligible for emergency student grants under the HEERF program. Students that were enrolled exclusively in online classes during spring 2020 semester are not eligible for emergency student grants under the HEERF program. 
  • Only students that participate in (or that are eligible to participate in) the Federal Student Aid programs authorized by Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 may receive funds under the HEERF program. This includes students that have filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or that are eligible to do so (i.e., the student meets all of the requirements for eligibility as may be confirmed through FAFSA, including U.S. citizenship or eligible non-citizen status; a valid Social Security number; registration with the Selective Service, if the student is male; a high school diploma, GED or other acceptable high school completion credential).
